Another birthday came and went - I knew something had to change. It's been 30 days since I decided to get real serious about my health. Since starting my own business, I feel...well, depleted. In the best way possible, though!
Between running around on meetings, photo shoots, switching to my mom hat and in general, burning the midnight oil nightly; I woke up one day feeling just awful. That's sans wine hangover! I decided to take things into my own hands. (more on this soon!) In a nutshell, I drastically changed my diet, added 30 minutes of exercise into my daily regime and cut out all gluten from my diet. I'll have to post my journey next week!
The point of all this? When I was invited to a Lyfe Kitchen Tasting this week, I knew this was the kind of invitation that was right up my alley...my reformed, healthy alley, that is!
What is LYFE you ask? I'll tell you!
It's fast food boasting an extraordinary, balanced diet of delicious, tasty options that just so happen to promote sustainability and local farm communities. It's the healthiest fast fare ever to hit my palette with a superb amount of flavor.
What? Flavor and healthy food...together? Yep, I know. Healthy nutrition can be delicious, too!
Both myself and four other bloggers sampled a colorful menu of edamame hummus and veggies, roasted mushroom and goat cheese flat bread, a kale caesar salad, unfried chicken, chili ginger stir fry, a vegan burger, a spicy black bean bowl and for dessert....a fresh berry bowl and banana budino.
And that's just a few of the dishes they generously offered us. The menu and tasting was extensive.
One of the highlights of the tasting was the LYFE Waters. I sampled the Hibiscus Beet Tea infused with ginger, apple and lemon! They are delicious!
Interesting fact: all LYFE entrees are under 600 calories which is amazing AND they just introduced a new line of Skinny Cocktails...yup, tasty alcoholic beverages all under 200 calories! Right then and there I was SOLD!
Speaking of skinny, here's the bottom line...LYFE Kitchen doesn't sacrifice taste for nutrition and that's exactly what you'll get. A rich rainbow of good-for-you foods that will make your mouth happy fueling your body the right way.
And that my friends, is a #LYFE choice we can all afford to make! Try out any of their three Chicagoland locations!
Despite the 90 degree temps, we're feelin' Fall in a major way. I also see 60 degree forecasts ahead so don't put those sweaters away just yet!
Last week I had the pleasure of collaborating with Chicago Parent in sharing our favorite pumpkin inspired recipe. There are SO many pumpkin recipes out there - it's enough to make your head spin and I truly prefer the less sugary, artificial taste that so many beverages leave you with. Yick! Instead, we create a new spin on our morning smoothie. I'd love to share it with you!
Sunday dinner is an event for us every weekend. As it should be. We run around like crazies all week long and it's our first real opportunity to relax and chat. Outside of this one hour it's birthday parties and errand running and special events...like every family in America. While we do spend a lot of time together as a family, it's not until a delicious dinner is in front of us that we actually pause and have conversation. Kind of crazy that it takes six days to get to that but I suppose that will be our new norm.
Cucina Paradiso is home to some of the best, authentic Italian cuisine here in Chicagoland.
The Shamrock Shake has once again made its annual appearance. And while this may be a favorite childhood treat for many, including myself, I went on a quest this year to find a healthier version. One that my entire family would love. Selfishly, this is also how I start my day so really, it's about killing two birds with one stone.
It's not uncommon for girlfriends to joke that I am no fun when we eat out or elbow me about eating like a bird. I don't take it personally. The reality is I eat quite a bit but all day long and rarely in one sitting. I eat with intention and I'm very aware of what I am putting in my mouth. This begs the question:
Why did you go gluten free?
In an attempt to eat "healthier" this past Super Bowl Sunday, I found a recipe in, none other, but Blissful Basil's newest cookbook for a fresh take on sliders. The recipe does not exist online but I found a similar version to share with you today.
Greetings friends. Happy Monday! I'm all over the place with this blog content schedule but I digress. I spent quite a bit of time in the kitchen yesterday and wanted to share this bright, colorful dish as it takes 30 minutes to whip up and it's oh-so-healthy. I will be making this again and again. Not only did I feel full but I felt healthy.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am rarely without a can of LaCroix in hand save for the hours of 5-9am when I am chugging back coffee and slapping myself awake. What you don't know is that I literally grew up on LaCroix. My parents didn't allow any pop in our house so the only way we could scratch that itch was by gulping down cans of flavored sparkling water.
In hindsight, it was a fabulous habit to enforce and now one of my daughters walks around with her own LaCroix. Yes, she's four years old and it could appear a bit ridiculous but hey...I know how to get her to consume more water!
Good morning ghosts + goblins! I'm making this a short and sweet post for three reasons:
Afternoon friends! How was your weekend? I flew in and out of Nashville for a social media speaking engagement with my partner for Oak St. Social. Whew! It was a whirlwind weekend but so much fun!
"Spectacular" doesn't do our Sunday dinner enough justice as I recollect all the amazing bites we had this past weekend at Sullivan's. If you haven't tried your hand at this amazingly, refined steakhouse...you're missing out!
Sunday marked our second occasion and previously scheduled date day but....surprise!...our sitter cancelled due to a stomach bug. I seriously contemplated canceling our reservation but thought better. Why not bring the kids along and teach them what refined dining is really like? Let's expand those tiny taste buds beyond burgers and hot dogs, shall we?
