I think the trick to Spring is mastering the art of layering. At least in Chicago it remains true. One day it's 70, the next it's 40. Either way, I've learned to make good use of my closet!
This tshirt is over a decade old. I keep it because it's such a different spin on the traditional Stones tees. In all honesty, everything I'm wearing is old; just well preserved. My trick to shopping inexpensively is to take care of the $20 shirt just the same as you would the $120 shirt. Hand to god!
It's hard not to love a good flare jean, too. I get more compliments on these suckers! I remember buying these in 2004 and feeling like it was such a big splurge to buy designer denim. Still is but there is a lesson here: buy what you love and it will always be in style!
I hope your Monday is off to a great start. Shop my outfit below:
I have never met a summer dress that I didn't like...unless it was revealing. That's a different story! Which begs the question: how cute is this tribal lace up version? It's a mere $48 and I love love love the details...poms, print, flare sleeves...all of my favorite things! Isn't it so refreshing to ditch the layers and bare those legs again? I love it!
My style has evolved over the years and I've quickly adopted the" less is more" theory. For example, if you're going to show more skin on top, cover up on the bottom and vice versa. This does not remove "sexy" from the equation, however. I believe you should flaunt what you've got and for me...it's always the legs. I'd like to think that after decades of ballet class and most recently, a pretty dedicated workout routine that "I've still got it"...as they say.
Camisoles can decidedly dress up just about every pair of denim you own. I get bored with graphic tees at times and opt for something more feminine. Don't get me wrong...I think every girl should have an arsenal of different tops for their moods, especially if your go-to uniform is denim!
Summer arrived and I wasn't even prepared. In the best way possible! Packing up warm weather tops and cut-offs for Mexico seemed only temporary but Chicago had something special in store when I returned!
One tequila. Two tequila. Three tequila. Floor!
Hi folks! I just returned from a stint in Guadalajara, Mexico with some amazing Chicago influencers. I cannot wait to share the 4-day recap with you...but that's going to take some time to curate. On the other hand...now you understand my radio silence last week. Sorry...#notsorry. It was AMAZING!
In approximately eight minutes <as I write this...> I turn another year older. One more year! I could write you this long diatribe about what I've learned this year but we'll save that for my NYE recap. I'll give you the cliff notes. This year I learned one thing:
If there is one thing you can count on Chicago for - it's raging mood swings when it comes to weather. It's totally insane. For example, last week I wore this "almost leather" skirt to our seminar and meetings. Yesterday it was 92 and I was wearing a sundress. I surrender. Don't I say this every year actually?
I'm breaking out the sundresses. It's official. <REJOICE> I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I had one of the best Mother's Day celebrations thus far. The weather was gorgeous. We hit the zoo, ate lunch outside, took in all the flowers at the Lincoln Park Conservatory and topped it off with a froyo date. It was amazingly perfect and I am so grateful for this little family of mine.
This weekend was gorgeous topped with birthday parties, family time and some light errand running. Still a ways away from shorts and sandals weather but getting close. I've had this trench for some time and I am always happy to break it out again. It's one of my favorite basics. It's funny when you purchase something that you aren't ultra excited to wear but then find it's one of your most trusted pieces a decade later. I suppose that's a testament to our personal style evolution.
It's always fun to look back and conjure up creative ways to reinvent your wardrobe. It's also a best practice. As my husband so aptly put it the other day, "Are we in the 'wear once' mindset or what?" He asked this after I rented a dress from Rent the Runway. And he's probably right...I have many dresses in my closet but that's a different story for a different day!
