There's nothing better than fresh fruit. I swear. Make that summer fruit, to be specific. By far, one of the best summer activities I've ever done with my kiddos was strawberry picking @ Stade's Farm. True, it was a bit of a hike but the loot was worth it. Buckets of strawberries, raspberries and snap peas all ripe and delicious. It's one of those messy sports that you don't mind your kids partaking in because they enjoy it and they're actually learning something, too!
There's something so innocent about your kids bolting into a field and getting extraordinarily excited about finding a big, juicy strawberry that they can claim their own. It's a proud moment for them and a cute one for the parent.
Lola was particularly fond of the raspberry portion of our adventure. Despite sticky temps, she was game for picking as many as she could fit into her mouth and bucket!
We were accompanied by some great friends which made it an official Mommy/Daughter date. Our girls are BFF's which makes it that much sweeter. (pun intended)
Olivia will never skip a photo opp. It's weird because I have no idea where she gets that from!
There's a lot to do @ Stade's Farm. While strawberry season is over...sweet corn season is only a couple days away followed by an epic Fall Festival including corn mazes, petting zoos, rides and of course, pumpkins.
While there are quite a few farms out there, I would highly recommend the field trip out because what's better than picking your own food and getting your littles involved? Sweat and dirt sold separately!
Summer is in full swing and I couldn’t be happier. Summer means more outside time and more family time. No matter how much time we spend outside, everyone, myself included, needs a moment to themselves. I call it “quiet time” and I’ve trained my girls to take an hour everyday.
I've partnered with Woodfield Mall again but this time the focus has slightly shifted...we're talking all things DAD! Yes...even dear old dad deserves a day to himself. <don't we all?> The girls and I headed out last weekend to get our shop on and shopping we did, indeed, accomplish. Might I add that we took several 100 breaks for various reasons ranging from the bathroom to snacks to toy stores and beyond BUT we completed our mission.
Note to self: Train daughters to build some shopping stamina!
Coming off of Spring Break is pretty much the ultimate low point...especially that first Monday. Ahem...yesterday. My kids have gotten much more mature and have become quite the little travelers which makes every vacation easier and easier. That said, we kind of have a drill down or strategy, I should say, when it comes to the preparation part.
The hardest part of being a mom is leaving your kids. Of course, it makes the return that much sweeter. The other hardest part is when you've got 'em...what do you do with them? Yes, we are now at that age in which I often hear, "Mom, I'm bored." or "What are we gonna do today that's fun?"
February is always such a whirlwind. In some aspects, I like that it's a short month because it signifies the end of what usually is a long winter. On the other hand, everything feels rushed. So, today, I am taking a moment to stop and smell the roses sharing my favorite moments from the month. A ton of QT with our little family and some welcome mail surprises. All in all, not a bad month…filled with color, of course. I think that's the Chicagoan in me - always seeking color on the grayest of days!
In an attempt to eat "healthier" this past Super Bowl Sunday, I found a recipe in, none other, but Blissful Basil's newest cookbook for a fresh take on sliders. The recipe does not exist online but I found a similar version to share with you today.
Gift giving has arrived my friends! When I think of the items I use daily, the absolute necessities in life, they are often brilliant inventions that have a practical function in my life. Believe it or not, they aren't shoes or dresses, they're items that help me function as a parent, a host, an entertainer...you know, an overall renaissance woman of sorts. Totally kidding!
Find me a girl who didn't want to be a mermaid at one point in her life. Impossible! It all started with "Splash" for me and for my girls.."The Little Mermaid." Luxurious hair, clam bikinis and that magical tail allowing you to gracefully glide through the water...sounds much better than my day job, right?
May is always such a crazy month. Sometimes I am relieved to turn the calendar to June but it really is the official kick off to Summer which means I should appreciate the turn of events and weather, right? Right!
I wrote what Lucy taught me about life here. Today I'm writing about what she's taught me about business. Think I'm kidding? P/S That's my Lucy and my husband. I adore that picture of her. Still think about her every day...
